Library “Schools Projects

The library goes to school

There are plenty of events for children and young people happening in the schools as well as in the libraries themselves.

Visiting authors, story tellers and artists may travel to schools throughout the County as a part of library book festivals making it easier for country schools to join in the fun.

There are also a wide variety of longer projects that involve the libraries and schools working together.  Here is a selection box of projects both completed and ongoing

The Describe Project

(project facilitator ~ Chris Thompson)
Describe projectThe Describe project designed and developed an innovative partnership approach to creative writing.
Scribes could be older children acting as Scribes for younger Authors, parents and older siblings scribing for the youngest group or children of all ages scribing for each other.
The project is ongoing and teachers, parents and librarians around the country have found DESCRIBE valuable in encouraging and supporting creative writing.

A full colour manual and DVD showing Scribing in action as well as downloadable materials to introduce the technique is available from the library. More information and further downloadable scribing materials can be found on www.christhompson.info

Besides its effectiveness in the school, children and parents have been meeting in libraries to write together in the Author and Scribe groups. One of these groups meets regularly in Lanesboro library in term time.

Story Inspiration Projects
