Access For All

Longford County Library has undertaken a number of initiatives to improve access to our buildings and services as part of our commitment to making our libraries a welcoming space for all.Our branch desks have been redesigned to improve access for our wheelchair users. We have installed hearing loops at all desks to assist users who are hard of hearing.

Our new accessibility software programmes , Jaws, Zoomtext and Kurzweil 1000,which are installed on a dedicated PC in all of our libraries aim to help people with print and reading difficulties to access printed text, the internet and many other common features on modern PC’s.

A guide to all of our accessibility services was developed by our staff as part of Longford Local Authorities Disability Strategy. All library staff have been trained in using the technology and local groups or individuals are most welcome to the library to receive a demo of how the programmes work.
