Culture Night 2023 is taking place Friday, 22 September. After the massive success last year's 24 events in 2022 with nearly 1,500 coming to County Longford, we cannot wait for this year's events!

Events

Looking For Happiness In County Longford

Time and Venue: 6-10:30pm at Market Square, Longford Town
Anna Wiercioch returns with her photo project 'Looking for Happiness in Co Longford. Capturing portraits of Longford people, Anna showcases the diversity and highlights the changes within Irish society, with the common thread of happiness. 
Suitable for all ages. No booking required. 

Art by the Lake

Time and Venue: 6.30-8.30pm at the Public Park, Lanesborough, County Longford
An interactive event encouraging people from all backgrounds to come together and create art pieces of the Shannon and Lough Ree in Lanesborough.
Should there be rain, the event will move to nearby St Mary's Hall. All materials and some refreshments provided. No booking required.

Celebrating Culture with Poems and Stories

Time and Venue: 6.30-9.20pm at the Bottleneck Bar, Longford
Longford Writers Group invite you to share an evening of poetry and story telling with local writers. Grab a chair. Grab a glass. Sit back and be entertained.
Suitable for all ages. No booking required. 

Craft Master’s Cafe

Time and Venue: 4-6.30pm at Craft Master's Cafe, Longford Town
Craft Master's Cafe is an exciting new venture for Longford Town. A new gallery has been set up to provide the public an opportunity to meet and work with international artists currently living in the midlands.
The cafe is also open all weekend following Culture Night.

Afro Beats Music

Time and Venue: 7-11pm at Escabar, Annaly Hotel in Longford Town
In partnership with Longford African Network, it promises a night of African Culture experienced through music including the genres of amapiano, juju, Fuji, highlife, Malissa, and kizomba. Its percussive beats, infectious rhythms and catchy melodies guaranteed to entertain and inspire.

The Edgeworth Legacy

Time and Venue: 8-10pm in The Maria Edgeworth Centre and Museum
Take some time to be led around The Maria Edgeworth Centre and Museum by an expert guide. This extraordinary venue is home to a wonderful collection of artefacts associated with Edgeworthstown and the Edgeworth Family. The collection includes manuscripts dating back to the 18th century.

Kenagh Culture Evening

Time and Venue: 7.30-9:30pm at Kenagh Culture Club
This event brings together local musicians and performers, many of whom have not preformed in public before, to entertain and bring together the local community to share an evening of culture.

Counter Culture

Time and Venue: 8-11pm, The Big Top, Lyons Bar in Longford Town
An evening highlighting the culture and talent of emerging artists, musicians and film makers working hard behind the scenes. Live music from Longford band Drongo Billy, rap duo Wolf/Bear and a Rubber Bandits Tribute Act. Counter Culture media screening showcasing Irish projects.

Bonne Nuit Granard

Time and Venue: 6-8pm, Knights and Conquests, Granard
Week-long celebration of Franco-Irish relations as Granard hosts a large delegation from East Rouen, will culminate in tradition music, storytelling, song and dance on Culture Night. We’ll be joined by award-winning musicians, storytellers, sean-nós dancers, and signers from John Dungan CCÉ with special guests. So come along in best voice or bring your dancing shoes and join in our Siege of Ennis as we reawaken the olden tradition of ‘Dancing at the Crossroads’.

Pop-Up Gaeltacht At The Haggard

Time and Venue: The Haggard, Ballyduff, Moyne, County Longford
The Gaeltacht returns for a completely free event, and ceisteanna, ceol agus craic galore await daoine of all levels of ability. The event is very accessible for those who only have a few focal so we hope to extend a céad míle fáilte to you all on the night!
