Making Moving Art

Making Moving Art (MMA) is a project set up to support Roma and Traveller childrens’ transfer to secondary school with an innovative art programme. The purpose of the project is to engage students who traditionally do not have access to cultural activities such as dance, music, drama and circus. The programme involves pupils from three primary schools and three secondary schools in Longford town.  The project is delivered by Longford School Completion Programme and a team of talented artists. The project is support by Longford Arts Service and funded under Creative Ireland and the Arts Council of Ireland’s Children and Young People’s Arts Project Award.

The project builds on the participants natural sense of play and unique cultural heritage. It introduced them to artforms that nurtured their curiosity and desire to express themselves while also directing their own creative experiences.  The project was operated by Longford School Completion, in conjunction with artists Aoife Raleigh, Marie Corcoran, Anica Dawson, Peter Crann and led by artist and dramaturg – Catherine Sheridan.

Over the 15-month programme over 112 students participated in a variety of sessions during school, out of school and summer camps learning skills and making new friends across the different activities.
