Outdoor Art Pilot Programme

Opens for applications: 02.10.25Closing date for applications: 02.12.25

Longford County Council’s Outdoor Art Programme is designed to encourage citizens, businesses and community groups to engage with artists to improve built environments and public realms in the Longford Town Area.  The programme invites local stakeholders to identify and nominate locations in their neighbourhoods and town that can be a potential site for public outdoor art. These artworks can take any form including murals, mosaics and sculptures.  A panel of artists engaged in the programme will be nominated to create and design the art work.

The Outdoor Art Programme forms part of a wider strategy of Longford Arts Service to support creativity in the community, promote pride of place and diversity of experience. The programme will operate in close association with Longford Tidy Towns Group who share these values and are engaged in a constant programme of streetscape improvement.

The project celebrates various aspects of local history, heritage, and culture with the following benefits:

  • Enhanced visual appearance of townscapes
  • Instilling community pride of place and citizen wellbeing
  • Support the development of the arts and work opportunities for artists

Longford County Council is committed to community engagement using public art as a catalyst for discussion and further exploration. In doing so, Longford County Council seek to inspire people in local communities to reflect on the diversity and richness of their culture and explore their own creativity and expression.
