Arts Bursary Awards 2026

Longford County Council Arts Bursary Awards helps local artists in the development of their artistic practice. The award is to help with work planned for the coming year, which may include training, research and making new work. Applicants may apply for:

  • Development of new work - Costs relating to the research, development or production of new work for exhibition or presentation.
  • Professional Development - Costs relating to improving your knowledge, skills or expertise - such as research, residencies or short-term courses; participation in conventional part-time or full-time education where other sources of public funding are unavailable. The extent to which these activities are relevant to on-going and planned work, the quality of that work, and its importance to future audiences, is crucial and should be clear from your application.

Applicants can come from a variety of artistic backgrounds and work in any artform. Applicants can apply for bursaries up to €3,000.  Before applying, please familiarise yourself with the Terms and Conditions, including the eligibility criteria. Requirements and notes:

  • Applicant must be a professional artist ordinarily basing their practice in County Longford.
  • The activity for which the artist wishes to apply must be completed before 31 December 2026.

Completed application forms must be accompanied by the following:

  • A short biography
  • A short C.V
  • Three samples of recent work
  • Contact details for two professional referees that are familiar with the applicant’s work

Applications are assessed under the following criteria by an independent external expert panel:

  • Quality of existing work and bursary proposal idea
  • Relevance and timeliness of proposal to the development of artist’s practice
  • Proposal feasibility
  • Cultural benefit for County Longford

Conditions for successful applicants:

  • Drawdown of funding will be in two instalments paid to the artist by Electronic Funds Transfer
  • The first instalment of 80% will be paid on request approximately six weeks before work start date.
  • The final instalment of 20% will be paid on receipt of a bursary evaluation report completed by the Artist.
  • First payment must be drawn down by May.
  • Final instalment of the funding must be drawn down by beginning of December.
