This parish is situated in the barony of Longford, on the road from Longford to Carrick-on-Shannon, and on the rivers Camlin and Shannon.
It contains 12,832 acres, including 296 acres of the River Shannon. Slightly more than half of the parish is arable and pasture land, with about 900 acres of wood; the remainder consists of waste and bog.
